To prevent changes to the background text and layout of a document containing Content Controls, use the Grouping facility in the Controls section of the Developer tab of the ribbon. Select the content control, and then on the Developer tab, in the Controls group, click Properties. If you receive or open a document and cant make any changes, it might be Open for viewing only in Protected View. Otherwise, when you change the text, some of the new text might end up outside the bookmark, and your changes won't be propagated.
